From download to a useful chart in ten minutes
SeaVectors is easiest to understand when you use it with waters and a voyage you already know. In your first session, open your usual boating area, place your vessel on the chart, inspect the available detail, and build a short route. You will quickly see how official ENC charting, planning, conditions, and instruments fit together.

Before you begin
- Connect to the internet for the first chart load and forecast download.
- Know the name or location of a harbor, marina, or cruising area you regularly use.
- Have location services enabled if you want to see your vessel and live navigation values.
- If you plan to connect onboard instruments, make sure the phone or tablet can join the same WiFi network as your NMEA gateway.
Set up your first session
1. Install, open, and review the navigation notice
Install SeaVectors from your app store and open it. Read and accept the initial navigation notice. SeaVectors is a powerful aid to navigation, but it does not replace required official information, a proper lookout, or prudent seamanship.
2. Start the full-access trial
Activate the 30-day free trial to explore the chart engine, route planning, weather and tide tools, alerts, instrument panel, offline preparation, and the rest of SeaVectors without feature restrictions during the trial.

3. Allow location access
When prompted, allow location while using the app. This enables:
- Your vessel position on the chart
- Course over ground (COG) and speed over ground (SOG)
- Follow and course-up map modes
- Conditions and alerts relevant to your position
You can still browse and plan without location permission, but SeaVectors cannot show or follow your live position.
4. Open waters you know
Search for or pan to your home harbor, marina, fishing area, or a familiar passage. Zoom in until you can see soundings, contours, navigation aids, hazards, and labels.
Try the nautical and night styles, then open the layers control to see how chart detail can be adjusted. Working with a familiar area makes it much easier to judge the quality and usefulness of the chart.
5. Locate and follow your vessel
Use the location control to center the chart on your position. Repeated use moves between locating, following, and course-up tracking modes. Check the navigation bar for your position, COG, SOG, and charted depth beneath the vessel.

6. Plan a short real-world route
Create a route between two places you recognize. Add a few waypoints and review the total distance, ETA, and fuel estimate. Then run the built-in simulation to watch the vessel and navigation instruments move along the route before you ever leave the dock.

7. Prepare your area before going offline
While connected to reliable internet:
- Pan and zoom over your intended route, destination, and alternatives so the chart data can load and cache.
- Download the available marine forecast for the trip area.
- Reopen the important areas and confirm the expected detail appears.

8. Sign in and connect your boat when ready
Signing in is recommended when you want account-based access and continuity across supported workflows. If your boat has a compatible NMEA WiFi gateway, connect it to bring live depth, speed, heading, wind, engine, fuel, AIS, and other supported data into the instrument panel.

Make the trial meaningful
Do not evaluate SeaVectors from an empty screen at home. During the trial, try these three things:
- Inspect a harbor or passage you know well.
- Plan and simulate a route you might actually travel.
- If available, connect your boat's NMEA gateway and arrange a useful instrument panel.
Those steps reveal far more than simply panning around the chart.
Troubleshooting
- Your vessel does not appear — confirm device location services and SeaVectors location permission are enabled, then use the location control again.
- The chart or forecast does not load — confirm internet access, move to a covered US or Canada West Coast area, and retry at a wider zoom.
- Location is inaccurate — move where the device has a clearer view of the sky and wait for GPS accuracy to improve.
- Saved data is missing on another device — confirm you are signed in with the intended account and check whether that workflow supports synchronization.
- Onboard instruments remain blank — verify that the device and NMEA gateway are on the same WiFi network and that the correct connection settings are configured.
